Patti Hinko (Paul VI '06) will serve as softball head coach at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax.

She began her coaching career as a varsity assistant at Avonworth High School in Pittsburgh while an undergraduate at Duquesne University. She went on to serve as an assistant at Westfield High School in Chantilly before becoming junior varsity head coach at Paul VI in 2013. She will begin her fifth year teaching English at Paul VI.

Hinko's 20 years of softball experience includes 11 years as a travel and high school player, as well as four years working as an ASA umpire. She continues to play competitively in the Fairfax Adult Softball League.

"Coach Hinko's skills as a teacher, her familiarity with PVI and her knowledge of the game made her a perfect choice for the job," said Paul VI Athletic Director Billy Emerson. "Her abilities and determination will play a big part in the continued growth of a traditionally strong program."

Hinko replaces former WCAC and VISAA Coach of the Year E.J. Thomas, who retired last spring after leading the Panthers to more than 250 wins, eight championship games, and one state title in his 17-year career.
