Band blasts competition at Busch Gardens festival

For the Catholic Herald

The Advanced Band Program at St. Thomas More Cathedral School
in Arlington won first place at the Musicale Band Festival at
Busch Gardens in Williamsburg last week. The band won first
place at the middle-school level and also was awarded the
championship trophy for all bands attending, which included
public and private, elementary, middle- and high school
levels.

“The (St. Thomas More) results were outstanding and represent
the biggest competition win in our school’s band history,”
said Barry Ward, band director.

The festival is an invitational band competition held each
spring at Busch Gardens. The win signals the second time a
Catholic school band has won both trophies. The judges scored
the band with scores of 96.6 and 93 points out of a possible
100 points.

After the competition, the students enjoyed the rest of the
day in the amusement park.
