The Catholic Business Network of Northern Virginia honored Father
Jamie R. Workman, its outgoing chaplain, by establishing a scholarship in his
name.
Marymount University President Matthew Shank announced the scholarship at a
Jan. 9 reception held at the Arlington university.
“It is a small token of thanks for all that you do,” said Shank,
who described Father Workman as a “man of reason” and a great person to work
with on the CBN board.
CBN is an independent, non-profit organization of businesses and
individual professionals who come together to represent community interests and
advance Catholic morality, values and ethics in the workplace.
Father Workman was ordained in 2006 after studying at Mount St.
Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md. He later received his licentiate in canon
law at The Catholic University of America in Washington. He currently works in
the diocesan tribunal.
In addition to his work with CBN, he has served as chairman of
the board of Commissioned by Christ, an organization that brings Catholics
closer to Christ through short-term mission trips.
CBN Vice President Pat Ennis said Father Workman provided moral
leadership that allowed the organization to make some tough decisions.
Art Bennett, president and CEO of diocesan Catholic Charities,
thanked Father Workman “for keeping the organization Catholic” and providing
spiritual leadership. He said Father Workman was committed and engaged with the
organization.
“CBN is on track and you’re responsible,” Bennett told Father
Workman.
Parker Teel, founder of TEEL Construction, presented Father
Workman with a plaque in honor of his four years of service as chaplain.
“I am very humbled by the words and kindness,” Father Workman
said. “I have built some wonderful relationships and friendships that I’m sure
will continue.
“I am encouraged by all the work that everyone has put in and I’m
impassioned by the vision,” he said.
CBN President Georgia Graves said that Father Andrew Fisher,
pastor of St. Ambrose Church in Annandale, will take over as CBN chaplain.
She said the board will work with Father Workman to develop
criteria for the scholarship in his name.
