Collection for retired religious Nov. 7-8

The Arlington collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious will be Nov. 7-8. Coordinated by the National Religious Retirement Office, the collection offers support for senior Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests whose communities lack sufficient retirement funding.

Of the $28.3 million raised nationally in last year's collection, the Arlington Diocese contributed more than $389,000. Financial assistance was given to 395 religious communities, including Holy Cross Abbey in Berryville and the Dominican Sisters in Virginia.

"We are overwhelmed by the ongoing generosity shown this appeal," said Precious Blood Sister Janice Bader, NRRO executive director. "Since the fund was launched in 1988, Catholics have donated $755 million to assist religious communities in caring for their elder members."
