The angelic theme permeated the “Parachute with the Angels” Vacation
Bible School at St. Mary of Sorrows Church in Fairfax.
Campers donned halos
before competing in a relay race. They made angels out of paper plates and
popsicle sticks. Their color-coordinated shirts had wings, and the walls
featured Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. During Bible time, they
learned the roles angels have played in God’s plan for salvation.
For their service project, some 130 campers decorated and stuffed
paper bags with toys, onesies and blankets for Project Gabriel, the Diocese of
Arlington program for pregnancy assistance, said Shelley Schaad, one of the organizers.
“When we did it last year, they said it was what the moms needed exactly when
they needed it,” she said.
