Monica Ellen Stabile, who taught at Bishop O’Connell High School
in Arlington for 35 years, died Dec. 15 in Arlington.

Stabile was born June 9, 1955, in Ogden, Utah, to Col. Harold and
Ilse Tramel. She spent more than 12 years growing up in Germany and studied at
the University of Maryland, Munich campus, for two years. She earned her bachelor’s
from George Mason University in Fairfax with a major in German and a minor in
English. She earned a master’s in education from the University of Virginia in
Charlottesville.
Stabile was the recipient of three fellowships from the Institute
for the Development of Educational Activity, sponsored by the Kettering
Foundation. Through the fellowships, she studied at Agnes Scott College in
Georgia, Loretto Heights College in Colorado and Harvey Mudd College in
California.
Stabile devoted her life to education. Longtime German teacher at
O’Connell, she also taught French and English at St. Anthony School in Falls
Church. In addition to teaching, Stabile led approximately 35 educational trips
for high school students and alumni to Europe.
Stabile was passionate about inspiring students to maintain a
lifelong quest to continue learning about different cultures. She is beloved by
her family, friends and students for her dedication, kindness and wit.
She was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her
husband, Daniel, a college counselor at O’Connell; son, Daniel; daughter-in-law,
Gina; sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Richard; nephews, Dave and Steve;
and grandchildren, Siena and Luca.

arrangements are as follows:
Visitation
is Friday, Dec. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 West
Broad Street in Falls Church.
A Mass of
Christian Burial will be on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic
Church, 905 Park Ave. in Falls Church.
