McLean resident receives highest papal honor for service

For The Catholic Herald

Cecilia H. Glembocki, past president of the Friends of John Paul
II Foundation, was presented the pontifical award Pro
Ecclesia et Pontifice (For service to the Church and to the Pope), the
highest award the pope bestows upon laity and religious for distinguished
service to the church.

Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko presented a medal and certificate from
Pope Francis following a Mass at the John Paul II Pilgrims Home in Rome Oct.
23. In attendance were Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, Pope John Paul II’s secretary,
several bishops, clergy, laypeople, Glembocki’s husband, children and their
spouses.

The award recognizes Glembocki’s work promoting church teaching
on family and cultural values and the teachings and legacy of St. John Paul II.

Glembocki, a parishioner at St. Luke Church in McLean, previously
received the diplomatic Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland awarded by the
president of Poland.
