New vice president, alumni join staff at Christendom College

Christendom College in Front Royal has appointed Greg Townsend vice president for academic affairs. Townsend has served as acting VPAA, replacing Steven Snyder, who stepped down to focus on teaching philosophy at Christendom.

"Dr. Snyder had such a positive impact on the academics at Christendom," said Townsend. "I'm honored to continue his excellent work."

An associate professor of mathematics and natural science, Townsend has played an integral part in the reintroduction of the mathematics major to Christendom for the coming spring semester. This is the first step in the college's plan to expand the number of math and natural science courses, with the option for students to minor in physics beginning fall 2015.

Townsend earned his bachelor's in sacred theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome and his master's in religious studies from Notre Dame Catechetical Institute, now the Christendom College Graduate School.

Three members of the class of 2014 recently joined the administrative staff of Christendom College in Front Royal, bringing the number of members of that class who work for the college to six.

Marilyn Charba is the new female residence director, working with the residence life office and focusing on the formation of women on campus. As the new special events manager, Theresa Francis works directly with President Timothy O'Donnell, and Mike Foeckler, vice president for operations and facility planning, to coordinate all special events. Zachary Smith will handle all media relations for the college in his position as public relations specialist.

"Christendom gave us so much during our time here, when we were given the opportunity to return to the college as staff, it was a no-brainer," said Smith. "It's wonderful to be able to give back to the college in such a way."
