Students at St. Ann School in Arlington are fixing
around 100 sandwiches a week for a local shelter, continuing a long-standing
tradition of service. During Thursdays in Lent, students take turns meeting in
the parish hall after school to assemble sandwiches that are delivered to
Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter in Falls Church.
Two different grades are assigned each week — one brings bread
and the other brings sandwich meat — and older students are paired with the
younger. Together, the students bag and box hundreds of meals for those in need
throughout the Lenten season.
