Bishop O’Connell High School of Arlington defeated Bishop Ireton High School of Alexandria 7-6 at an April 9 game in Arlington.

Ireton came out strong, putting up six runs in the second and third innings, but O’Connell clawed back with three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth.

During his first time as a varsity pitcher, O’Connell sophomore Joseph Suarez (21) eliminated a threat from Ireton when two of its players were on second and third base. The game was characterized by heavy pitcher rotations for O’Connell due to an intensive spring break tournament. The game-changer for O’Connell was when Riley O’Donovan (8) nailed a two-run homer, his first high school home run. O’Connell’s Andrew Womak (24) scored the game-winning run from a single by Andrew Barbour (2).
