Sr. Marie la Reine Spain, IHM, dies at age 93

Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister Marie la Reine Spain, who taught for 20 years at Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, died t age 93 Feb. 18 in Camilla Hall, Immaculata, Pa. She was in her 70th year of religious life.

Born in Akron, Ohio, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1946 and professed her vows in 1949.

Prior to entering the Congregation, she served as a communications officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

In addition to teaching in the Arlington Diocese, Sister taught in the Richmond Diocese and the Pennsylvania dioceses of Philadelphia, Allentown, York and Harrisburg. She retired to Camilla Hall in 2005.

Father William E. Dean and Msgr. Joseph Logrip concelebrated the funeral Mass at Camilla Hall Feb. 23.

She is survived by her sister, Elaine Harrison, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
