This month, the church is honoring missionaries. We’ve highlighted a lot of great missionary groups in the Catholic Herald, but I wanted to mention one more. For the past 23 years, the Manassas-based Medical Missionaries have served the poor domestically and internationally. Here’s a breakdown of the work they’ve done just in the past couple of weeks.
- Collected 50 large boxes of adult diapers and distributed them to assisted living facilities in the Manassas area. Diapers, usually provided by the family, can be a financial burden.
- Brought two truckloads of clothing and household items to multiple families in West Virginia.
- Shipped wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, shower chairs and 40 boxes of adult diapers to Jamaica.
- Shipped eight tons of health supplies, equipment and rice to Guinea-Bissau, one of the poorest countries in West Africa, located in the vicinity of the recent Ebola outbreak.
- Shipped 30 36-pound boxes of rice, donated by the House of Mercy in Manassas, to the Rockland Food Bank in Grundy, Va., one of the poorest counties in the commonwealth.
That’s just a snapshot of the wide range of activities they do and places they help. How can you spread God’s love near and far this month?
