  • Modeling the Boy Scout Law and Motto

This week I had the opportunity to meet a family whose legacy in the Scouting world means there are five Eagle Scouts in the family. You can read about the last of the family to earn this rank in the June 27 issue.

But what struck me most about the family was their kindness. They were very welcoming to me in their home and even offered the gift of an open door if I ever want to stop by again sometime — I believe I will take them up on it!

You may know Scouts in your own family who have declared this: On my honor, I will do my best, to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout law; to help other people at all times; and to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. Or exemplify the Scout law by being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

When I met the family I was struck by how they were so friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful and loyal to the Catholic faith. It was wonderful to see how the  motto and law can change lives and be lifelong.
