More than 800 high school-aged teens, adult leaders and volunteers spent eight hours of their Sunday getting excited about and experiencing the Catholic faith with their peers. 

Ten soccer teams competed against each other during the Under the Lights Invitational Soccer Tournament at St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax Oct. 17. Unlike most athletic competitions, all of the participants came out winners. 

Bishop Michael F. Burbidge thanked hundreds of homeschoolers and their parents for the gift that they are to the church during the second annual Mass for Homeschool Families at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Gainesville Oct. 19. In the reception that followed, families had the opportunity to talk with him and to receive his blessing.  

Jesus was the consummate teacher. He came to reveal to the world the most important truths about God, his kingdom and the path to human flourishing. His teaching method is a work of art to be studied. At times, Jesus simply holds the crowds spellbound by his wisdom and authority. On occasion, he chastises individuals for their pride, hypocrisy and bad example. Sometimes, Jesus lets his disciples learn by hands-on experience as when he sends them ahead of him on a preaching mission. At other times he redirects their follies and re-channels their energies in new directions.

In their second round of reports to the Synod of Bishops, a number of working groups called for qualified and, in some way, supervised spiritual mentors or directors, recommended including more female figures from the Bible as examples and role models for young people, and praised having the inspiring input of young people during the gathering.
