Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria appointed Lisa Yeaton Alaoui as the new girls varsity soccer coach for the 2019-20 season. Alaoui previously served as coach of the girls junior varsity team before her most recent position as assistant coach for the varsity. 

The 2019-20 school year promises to be an exciting one at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria. Renovation and construction in the main school is set for completion by Sept. 3. The work includes brand new art rooms, additional classrooms, administrative offices, a new school bookstore, a new campus ministry meeting area and campus ministry offices. The new academic center, which broke ground in September 2018 and which will house state-of-the-art STEM facilities, a new library with meeting rooms and classrooms, a production room, a new dining area and space for our growing Academic Support program, is on target for completion in December this year with a projected opening for students in January 2020. Additionally, a new auxiliary gym and a new upper front entrance vestibule for the original building will be completed by the end of November.

While many high schoolers were sitting by the pool or finishing up their summer reading, 14 students from St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax participated in a unique service trip to help the cloistered Carmelite Sisters in Fairfield, Pa.

Having now embarked into their second decade, Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Potomac Shores is back to school with leadership changes. This fall, the school will shift to a new administrative model of head of school and principal. Dominican Sister Mary Veronica Keller, who has served as principal since 2016, will become the head of school, and Shawn McNulty, who has served as assistant principal of student life since 2008, is the school’s new principal.

Seton School in Manassas begins its 45th year with a major change in administration. Anne W. Carroll, one of the founders of the school and its only director during its first 44 years, is stepping down from that position in order to have more time to concentrate on her religion and history classes. The new director is Robert M. Pennefather, who has been a teacher at Seton since 1991 and dean of students for 26 years. The new dean of students is Timothy Heisler, who graduated from Seton in 1990 and has been teaching there since 1995. 

As announced in the July 25 print edition by Billy Atwell, Chief Communications Officer for the diocese, the Catholic Herald will begin a biweekly print schedule Sept. 12. There will be no print edition Sept. 5. In addition, the paper will expand its current print distribution from 40 percent of diocesan households to roughly 80 percent.

Father Noah C. Morey is the new chaplain at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, replacing Father Edward J. Bresnahan, who became parochial vicar at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Clifton.
