This summer marks a period of great transition and anticipation for the arts community at The Catholic University of America in Washington, as the faculty, students and staff of the newly established Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, Drama, and Art prepare for their inaugural year.

Four diocesan schools are expecting new principals in addition to new students this fall. 

The 13th annual George Mason University back-to-school luau hosted by Catholic Campus Ministry drew a crowd of more than 1,750 freshman and new students for food, games and dancing at the St. Robert Bellarmine Chapel in Fairfax Aug. 24. The luau gives campus ministry a chance to introduce new students to what they have to offer at the school, and more than 600 new students said they want to be involved in Bible studies and activities.

While the policies and procedures that  have been implemented by the Church since 2002 to address the sexual abuse of minors by the clergy have resulted in a significant decrease of such abuse, the revelations of horrific incidents of abuse in the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report, along with the abuse perpetrated by Archbishop McCarrick point to a systemic problem within the Church that can no longer be ignored or tolerated by the episcopacy in the United States.
