Protesters, Catholics reject President Trump’s executive order on the refugee ban.

Since 2012, students at Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Dumfries have participated in the annual House of Ruiz Penny Wars. The weeklong contest between the school’s eight houses offers an opportunity for friendly competition and unification of the student body in support of a common goal. 

Together with Bishop Vasquez and my brother bishops, I encourage Catholics to contact our elected officials to make our voices heard: our communities have been and will continue to be hospitable to refugees, in keeping with our legacy of welcoming the stranger.

The March for Life, held Jan. 27 in Washington, marked its 44th anniversary, and drew more than 4,000 people from the Arlington Diocese, according to Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist Clare Hunter, director of the Respect Life Office. 

At the Life Is Very Good prayer vigil Jan. 26, more than 8,500 youth, volunteers and religious converged on the Eagle Bank Arena for a night of prayer, music and witness to life.
