Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School welcomed Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde and his secretary, Father Robert J. Wagner, to celebrate Mass Sept. 14. A tradition at the start of each academic year, this year’s Bishop’s Mass proved particularly significant because it marked what will most likely be Bishop Loverde’s final one as he readies for retirement.
St. Timothy School in Chantilly dedicated a new, 650 square foot entrance and lobby Sept. 30. Father Gerald Weymes, pastor of St. Timothy Church, led the students and faculty in a prayer before cutting the ribbon.
The runners in the Race for Seminarians compete in the historic Marine Corps Marathon or the Marathon 10K Oct. 30. The donations they raise support the everyday needs of seminarians — medical bills, car repairs and travel — expenses typically not covered.



Nine too few
The 10 lepers desired to be healed and they hoped that they could be healed. The arrival of Jesus in their village gave them a chance to be healed like others He had healed elsewhere. Of course, their minds and hearts were focused on their affliction and their needs. We don’t expect them to be expressing gratitude to Him before their healing. But would it have been possible? Grateful for what? Their lives were miserable compared to the lives of others who enjoyed good health.
