The U.S. Catholic bishops stand with "our brothers and sisters of the Jewish community," the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said Oct. 27 after a horrific shooting earlier that day in Pittsburgh at the Tree of Life Synagogue, described as a hub of Jewish life in that city. 

As part of Black Catholic History Month, the Diocese of Arlington is co-sponsoring three days of performances chronicling the life of Father Augustus Tolton, a former slave from Missouri who became a priest and who is under consideration for canonization.  The one-man play is free and will be held at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria Nov. 15-18. 

Religion in general and Catholicism in particular are central to this intense, challenging drama from writer-director Drew Goddard. 

The firestorm surrounding the clergy sex abuse crisis and the way some bishops handled allegations of abuse against priests will be an important part of the agenda of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' fall general assembly.
