Bishop Michael F. Burbidge joined parishioners of St. James Church in Falls Church for their Lenten fish fry March 15. Over the past 10 years, the event has more than doubled with as many as 700 guests on any given Friday of Lent.

Thanks to generous donations from parishioners of St. Jude Church in Fredericksburg, the church has five new stained-glass windows. Designed by Beyers Studio in Philadelphia with a traditional style, the beautiful windows were installed March 13  in the church that was dedicated last July.

Q. A good Protestant friend has asked me to be a witness at the wedding of her nephew in a Protestant church. Is a Catholic allowed to participate, taking a major role, in formal rites and rituals of non-Catholic churches? (City of origin withheld)

Q. In a recent column, you quoted Luke 24:39 ("Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.") Are we to believe from this that Our Lord is confirming the existence of ghosts? (Virginia Beach, Va.)

U.S. Catholic bishops condemned the two mosque attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand, March 15 that left at least 49 people dead and 20 seriously injured, and they also pledged their solidarity with the Muslim community.

The New Zealand mosque shooting resulted in a horrifying & tragic loss of life. Please join me in prayer for the victims, their families, & the community. This massacre was rooted in blinding hate & religious bigotry. May God’s grace eradicate such sentiments & heal all wounds.

Everyone knows that St. Peter is impulsive, prone to speak and act in a hurry. We love to see him walk on the water with Jesus. We see him fall but we appreciate that he was ready to try — and that he succeeded for a time. St. Peter is a fascinating and very real character among the apostles of Jesus. We can learn from his initial impulses.
