Last year, we lost power on the First Sunday of Advent, the last Sunday of Advent and Christmas Day. And no, losing power is not something normal for us, it rarely happens. I couldn’t help notice the symbolism of the power loss on those significant days. It was a reminder that the only light we […]
The girls tennis team at Seton School in Manassas had a remarkable season, winning the Delaney Athletic Conference using the powers of hard work, perseverance and prayer to overcome great odds.   The season began with only three players on the team: juniors Bridget Atkinson and Mary Heim, whose mothers co-coached; and eighth-grader Jordan Kach. As we do every year on the last Sunday before Advent, this Sunday the universal church celebrates the Solemnity of Christ the King. It is a reminder that Jesus Christ reigns over all of creation. Considering that this life is marked by sin and suffering, the truth of Our Lord’s sovereignty brings us peace, for we are comforted knowing that just as Jesus Christ gained our salvation through the horror of the cross, He also brings the fulfillment of the Kingdom of God through the struggles and sorrows of this life.
