Not only are cemeteries — and Catholic cemeteries in particular — a trove of history about the people who are interred there, but two in the state of Virginia show they can have their own moment in the spotlight.

A month after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, Catholic organizations, groups and individuals were still among the most prominent responders to the needs of a suffering people. 

Seton School in Manassas celebrated the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima Oct. 13 in a big way. The festivities began with the seventh-grade girls processing into the John Paul II Center connected by a prayer chain made from student petitions. They laid the chain at the foot of the statue of the Blessed Mother.

Virginians will cast ballots Nov. 7 in several important elections: races for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general, as well as for their local Virginia delegate seat. All these races are important. The Virginia Catholic Conference 2017 voter education materials, all available and printable at vacatholic.org, will help guide voters as they consider their ballots.
