The sound of sacred music filled the Great Upper Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington as The Catholic University of America celebrated the start of the spring semester with its annual Mass in honor of St. Thomas Aquinas, the patron saint of Catholic schools.

One of the most powerful realities in the New Testament is the transformation of the lives of those who looked upon Jesus with love and faith. Minds were changed, bodies were healed, sins were forgiven, hearts were set on fire, new missions were embraced — and the world has never been the same.

Growing up, I knew nothing of God. Theater was my passion and my life revolved around the stage. It was my drama teacher at the performing arts high school I attended that first informed me that there is a God who loves me immensely and has an incredible adventure planned for my life.

Last winter, I took an extensive course in flower farming. While I think I entertained the notion that I might become a flower farmer, mostly I wanted to learn everything I could about how flowers grow. And I did. From starting seeds to irrigating to marketing and packaging for sale, I soaked up every bit of floral information available to me.
