 In the late 1800s, Black Elk, an Oglala Lakota medicine man participating in the Ghost Dance movement, had a vision of a figure with pierced hands who identified himself as the Son of God. Continuing his new series of talks on prayer during his weekly general audience May 13, the pope said that the longing expressed through prayer "is more than a need, more than a necessity."

Fr. Nicholas J. Schierer, parochial vicar, gives drive-thru Mother’s Day blessings at Our Lady of Hope Church in Potomac Falls May 10. During the 90-minute event, 53 families received blessings from Fr. Schierer. The parishioners, unable to attend Mass in person during the COVID-19 pandemic, were overjoyed to have face time with the priest.br />br />
