The Catholic Herald took home 26 awards at this year’s annual Catholic Media Conference. Scheduled for
Portland, Oregon, the gathering went virtual as have so many other large
gatherings in the time of coronavirus. Keynotes, special topic sessions,
roundtables and even the annual awards presentation, were all courtesy of Zoom.
In a lively video shot partly in Rome, Delaware and Maryland, the
award winners were announced July 2, complete with a canned applause track and
scrolling names on the screen.
Acting Editor and General Manager Ann Augherton received second
place for Editor of the Year in the Individual Excellence category; Mary
Stachyra Lopez, former social media coordinator, won first place for Social
Media Professional of the Year in the same category.
In the diocesan communications office, Chief Communications
Officer Billy Atwell won honorable mention for Communications Director of the
Year; and Bridget O’Boyle, director of digital and social media for the
communications office, won the Father John Catoir Social Media Evangelization
Award. The diocese also won an honorable mention for the Just One Yes
initiative.
