The fall campaign of the 40 Days for Life initiative kicked off last month with a rally in front of the Falls Church Healthcare Center that drew 40 people.
Father Paul D. Scalia, pastor of nearby St. James Church, drew a biblical parallel between the pro-life campaign and Christ’s 40 days in the desert, as well as the Israelites’ 40 years of wandering in the wilderness.
Pro-life advocate Amy Young shared her powerful story of healing and forgiveness after the death of her fourth child in the womb helped her come to terms with the abortion she had years before. By grieving both, she was able to walk the long road to spiritual recovery.
Attendees sang hymns, prayed and joined in honoring Ruby Nicdao, a longtime pro-life leader in Northern Virginia.
Every day through Oct. 31, participants in 40 Days for Life will pray outside the abortion clinic, one of hundreds of prayer vigils being held in more than 60 nations by 40 Days for Life affiliates.
Organizers said their presence is a vigil, not a protest, and all their campaigns adhere to a statement of peace that participants will act peacefully and lawfully outside clinics.
