Sacred Heart Academy in Winchester held a groundbreaking ceremony Jan. 8 for a new 11,475 square-foot gymnasium. The facility will connect to the existing building and will house a full-sized, multi-use basketball court, bleachers for 200 viewers, team locker rooms for both boys and girls, administrative offices for the athletic director and additional storage.

The school also will undergo renovation of 3,800 square feet of existing space to create a new cafetorium, stage and prep kitchen. The entire project should be complete by the end of 2016.

“We are very proud of what our facility will do for the academy as well as the parish and community,” said Father Stanley J. Krempa, pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Winchester.
