The Benedictine Sisters of Virginia will sell stained-glass windows, light fixtures and other items from their former monastery at an estate sale Jan. 28 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the old monastery building, 9535 Linton Hall Rd. in Bristow.

“Now that we are happily in our new monastery, it is time to clear out the old one with an estate sale. Come tour the old monastery and see what treasures you might like to purchase for your very own,” the sisters said in flyers and on social media.

The sisters moved into their new 40,000-square-foot monastery in late October. The new building, which had been in the works for several years, is adjacent to the old monastery and Linton Hall School, on land the sisters have occupied for more than 125 years.

Nine Benedictine-themed stained-glass windows were transferred from the old chapel to the new chapel; several other large windows from the old chapel will be given to the new St. Katharine Drexel Church in Haymarket.

The sisters continue to raise funds to demolish the old monastery building and chapel by this  spring, as required by the county. The sisters plan to create a prayer garden in the space.
