The day of the week and the location of the annual Chrism Mass have changed for this year. The new location is All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Rd., Manassas. Bishop Michael F. Burbidge will celebrate the Mass Tuesday, April 4, at 11 a.m., instead of the typical Thursday.
The Mass gathers priests from throughout the diocese to celebrate the liturgy with Bishop Burbidge and to renew their vows.
The oils of the sick and the catechumens are blessed, and the sacred Chrism is consecrated. The priests take the oils back to their parishes to be used in sacramental rites, including baptisms, confirmations and anointing of the sick.
Masses for Palm Sunday, April 2, and the Lord’s Supper, April 6, will be celebrated by Bishop Burbidge at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More, 3901 Cathedral Lane, Arlington. The Passion of Our Lord, April 7, will also be at the cathedral. Check your parish website or bulletin for the Holy Week schedule in your parish.
