Connor Terreri, a middle schooler at St. Ambrose School in Annandale, was named the 2023 Virginia State Champion in a national online contest sponsored by the American Scholastic Achievement League.
Seventeen other seventh and eighth grade students at the school scored at or above the national average and were awarded certificates for their achievement.
The competition consisted of 100 questions across six categories, including general knowledge, geography, history, language and literature, science and mathematics. The questions reflected general educational standards for eighth graders rather than a set curriculum.
Three other St. Ambrose students were Virginia State champions in the last three years: Pio Nguyen, Will Brenningmeyer and Zachary Robbins.
