Daisy Almaraz, a seventh grader at Sacred Heart Academy in Winchester, was recognized as a grand national champion in the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest. She was presented the award June 13.

Last year, Almaraz won the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Contest State Championship as a sixth grader.

“I enjoy writing in cursive because I feel it is more visually appealing, which allows the reader to better connect to the content,” said Almaraz. “Handwriting is enjoyable to me because, with a little practice, you can easily improve.”
