Franciscan Friars of the
Atonement Fr. Patrick Cogan and Fr. Ken Cienik celebrated
50 years of service in their order June 28 at Graymoor in
Garrison, N.Y. Fr. Cogan is pastor and Fr. Cienik is
parochial vicar of Christ the Redeemer Church in Sterling.
Fr. Cogan received his bachelor’s in 1972 from Siena College
in Loudonville, N.Y. and earned his law degree and doctorate
from St. Paul University in Ottawa and the University of
Ottawa. He taught religious studies at D’Youville College in
Buffalo and canon law at St. Paul University. A specialist in
canon law, he served as editor of Ecumenical Trends, Canon
Law Digest XIII and Cano. For his contribution to the field
of canon law, Fr. Cogan was honored by the Canon Law Society
with its Role of Law award in 2012.
Fr. Cienik received his bachelor’s in 1972 from Siena College
and completed graduate studies at Duquesne University in
Pittsburgh and Washington Theological Union. He was director
of the Graymoor Spiritual Life Center and served as guardian
of St. Paul’s Friary at Graymoor. He served several campus
ministries and was director of the pre-theology program at
University of Steubenville in Ohio. A military chaplain from
1986 until 2010, he served U.S. troops during Operation
Desert Storm in 1991 and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, and
was awarded the meritorious service medal.
