The Asian and Pacific Islander Catholic Network will celebrate its 20th annual Marian pilgrimage May 6 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington.
The pilgrimage, in collaboration with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church, brings together Asian and Pacific Islander Catholic communities from New York to South Carolina to celebrate their faith and cultural heritage. Delegations from various archdioceses and dioceses participate in the pilgrimage and represent more than 20 national and ethnic communities.
This year, participants from multiple dioceses representing the Bangla, Burmese, Cambodian, Chamorro, Chinese, Filipino, Indian (Latin, Syro-Malabar, and Syro-Malankara Rites), Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Lebanese, Montagnard, Pakistani, Samoan, Sri Lankan, Thai and Vietnamese communities will attend.
The pilgrimage begins at noon and includes Confession; a procession and call to prayer at 1 p.m.; rosary at 2 p.m.; and Mass at 2:30 p.m.
The main celebrant and homilist for the Mass will be Washington Cardinal Wilton D. Gregory assisted by several Asian and Pacific Island priests. After Mass, there will be a reception outside the Crypt Church.
