Bishop Ireton Athletic Director W. William Simmons announced Ireton alum Jon Norem (class of 1989) will become the boys’ varsity soccer coach for the 2009 season.
A life-long soccer player, Norem played for the legendary Hall of Famer Pete Johnson at Ireton during the late 1980s. He helped lead the Cardinals to a Virginia Catholic state championship his senior year and went on to play college soccer for Shenandoah University, where he graduated in 1994.
Norem has coached a number of successful club soccer teams for the previous 10 years throughout northern Virginia. He is married to the former Marci Garrison of Woodbridge and the couple has three children: Daniel, Nicolas, and Garrison.
“Jon knows the game and he’s an Ireton guy,” said Simmons. “He is a disciplined and professional coach who learned under a master, Pete Johnson. He has a passion for soccer, the Cardinals, and a tireless work ethic.”
Ireton opens the 2009 campaign Aug. 25 when they host DeMatha, then travel to three-time conference champion Gonzaga.
