Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Potomac Shores was awarded the Purple Star designation for 2023-24, recognizing the school’s commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and their families. John Paul the Great is the only diocesan high school to receive the designation. The school announced the news after Mass Nov. 8 and celebrated with a reception.

Recently, the school hosted a Military Family Resource Night to connect active-duty military

families with educational resources provided by the military. The school also employs approximately 20 veterans and received the Seven Seals Award last year for its commitment to hiring veterans and members of the reserves.
