Performing in a live reenactment of the Stations of the Cross made Christ’s crucifixion all the more real, said Gloria Gallagher. “It was a lot more intense than it is when you just see it in the pictures,” she said. “It feels like it’s coming alive. It helped me understand it more.”
Gallagher was one of several middle and high school youth group members who reenacted the Passion on Good Friday at Holy Family Church in Dale City April 15. Dressed in robes and soldiers’ uniforms, the youths acted out the 14 stations as Toni Papp, director of youth ministry, read the reflections. Cantors and a pianist accompanied the performance, ending with a rendition of the spiritual “Were You There?”
The youths also performed live stations on Holy Thursday for students at Holy Family School. Aaron Coomer, who played the apostle John, said he was glad to get the chance to teach the younger kids about the Passion. Elias Diaz, who played Judas and Joseph of Arimathea, said he learned a lot about the people present at Christ’s death through performing it. “It got me closer to Jesus.”
