Churches across the Arlington diocese will participate again this year in “The Light is ON for You” initiative to encourage parishioners to receive the sacrament of reconciliation during Lent.
“During this sacred Season of Lent, I encourage all Catholics in the Diocese of Arlington, especially those who have fallen away from the practice of the faith, to experience the Lord’s forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In doing so, your sins will be forgiven, and you will know the peace only the Lord can give,” said Bishop Michael F. Burbidge.
In addition to regular reconciliation times, all 70 churches in the diocese will be open for quiet prayer and confession every Wednesday 6:30-8 p.m. through the rest of Lent, except the last Wednesday of Holy Week.
The Archdiocese of Washington and the Arlington diocese have created websites in English and Spanish with information about the sacrament. They include advice on how to prepare for confession, explain the process, and what to say. They also include prayers and other resources.
Although many parishes continue to livestream Masses and hold classes and meetings via Zoom during the ongoing pandemic, receiving the sacraments can’t be done remotely — sacraments require physical presence.
