Bishop Michael F. Burbidge celebrated Mass and blessed the
new narthex, or church entryway, at St. Lawrence Church in Alexandria June 25.

“(Jesus) says you will always be able to survive the storms
of life that we all experience if our faith is built on a solid foundation,”
Bishop Burbidge said during the homily.

“But dear friends, this beautiful narthex, and these doors,
will only be the gift they are meant to be if people frequently enter through
them,” he said, encouraging the congregation to invite family, friends,
parishioners and those who have left the church to pass through the doors and
enter the church “to be strengthened and nourished by the Lord, our God — our
sure, solid and sound foundation, the one who helps us through the storms of
life.”

Following Mass, Bishop Burbidge processed into the narthex
and blessed the doors, finishing with a word of congratulations to the parish.
