Eighth grade students attending public schools or non-Catholic private schools who are interested in attending Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Arlington must take the High School Placement Test (HSPT) offered Dec. 4, 2021, or Jan. 8, 2022.

With the new year came a brand-new program for the students of Seton School in Manassas. Senior Advocates for Students, or S.A.S., is made up of 22 senior students assigned to different grades in the school. The seniors were tasked with making themselves available to the students in their assigned grade and encouraging unity within the class. The advocates chose the motto: “I am the vine;  you are the branches” (Jn 15:5). The students see themselves as the sunshine and the rain God can use to help the branches bear fruit.

In a long, somewhat rambling piece about the bishops and abortion appearing in the September Commonweal, Peter Steinfels makes a crucial point. It’s been made before by others, but it bears repeating at this moment when the Supreme Court, in the term that began Oct. 4, is widely expected to reverse or significantly modify Roe v. Wade, its 1973 decision legalizing abortion, and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the 1992 decision reaffirming Roe.

It is well known that the church dedicates both May and October to the remembrance of the Blessed Virgin Mary. May’s commemoration is more general — the Mother of God in all her splendor — whereas October’s is quite specific: Mary under her glorious title, Our Lady of the Rosary.
