Jesus is “the wisdom of God” (1 Cor 1:24). St. Augustine notes that, while the same can truly be said of each of the divine persons, it is the second person of the Trinity that Scripture usually refers to as “wisdom” (“De Trinitate” viii. 4). This revelation in the New Testament has deep roots in the Wisdom books of the Old Testament, which are arguably the least well-known books of sacred Scripture. In them is one of the great Christological threads running through the Bible, from Job through Proverbs, Sirach and Wisdom of Solomon, and culminating in the Gospels.

Amid the excitement of Christmas’ arrival, seniors at Seton School in Manassas worked together to put on a production for the Seton community. Every year, the senior class has the option of producing a show as a class, with some adult volunteers, as a way to bond in their last months together. This year, Seton’s class of 2020 performed “Christmas in Connecticut,” directed by senior Marcie Van de Voorde and assisted by seniors Juliette Orr and Jeremy Kleb.

Maria Kim began performing traditional Korean dances as a girl, but when she moved to the United States, there were fewer opportunities to dance.  Fortunately, three years ago, she and more than a dozen parishioners of St. Paul Chung Korean Catholic Church in Fairfax formed a dance troupe. They perform in colorful Korean costumes at different events and festivals around the area, and at least monthly at an assisted living facility.

By papal decree, the third Sunday in Ordinary Time — Jan. 26 this year — is to be observed as a special day devoted to "the celebration, study and dissemination of the word of God."

When writing I generally try to reach as broad an audience as possible. But as we begin this new year, I’d like to address myself to those who feel they are growing old.

Hours after Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles at two Iraqi bases, Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, issued a statement calling for urgent prayers "that our world's leaders will pursue dialogue and seek peace."
