Theater camps and beloved musicals take center stage this summer, bringing audiences together for productions of “Hello Dolly!” and “Fiddler on the Roof” as well as a chance for kids to attend Drama Bootcamp.
Spotlight on the Arts Summer Camps will host several camps July 13-24 at Nativity Catholic Church in Burke and All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas. Theater camps include a Broadway Spotlight for grades 4-12 and a Drama Bootcamp for grades 1-8. Visual arts camps are arts and crafts for grades 1-4 and Art Explorer for grades 5-8.

“Hello, Dolly!”
Nativity Players, the theater ministry at Nativity Catholic in Burke, will perform “Hello, Dolly!” July 23-25, 30, 31, and Aug. 1. The play follows meddlesome widowed matchmaker, Dolly Levi, as she travels to New York City to arrange a marriage for the wealthy merchant Horace Vandergelder. “Fiddler on the Roof”
Upper Room Theatre Ministry, located in Manassas, will perform “Fiddler on the Roof” July 21-26. The play tells the story of Tevye and his family in the Jewish community of Anatevka in Tsarist Russia. Online ticket sales begin June 30 at upperroomtheatreministry.org.
“Mary Poppins”
The Torch Players from TORCH Drama Club will perform “Mary Poppins” June 12-14 and 18-21. Mary Poppins, a whimsical and magical nanny, embarks on various adventures with the Banks children, Jane and Michael, teaching them valuable lessons along the way. Go to torchdramaclub.org/tickets.
“The Little Mermaid”
Summer Theatre Program, a ministry co-sponsored by St. Bernadette Church in Springfield and Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, will perform “The Little Mermaid” July 23-25 at Ireton. “The Phantom Tollbooth”
St. John’s Drama Club allows all interested teens to participate in bringing well-crafted family friendly productions to the stage and learn the art of theatre. This summer, the St. John’s Drama Club will be performing “The Phantom Tollbooth” July 17-20. Milo is a boy who suffers from the most terrible of ailments: being really, really bored. That is, until a mysterious package arrives in his room and sends him on the adventure of a lifetime. “The Crime Wave at Blandings”
The Embers Theatre Company from Falls Church is an initiative that provides a unique summer experience for children to foster friendships and a love for the arts, developing new plays and staging a traveling tour each summer. This summer, they will make a stop at the Basilica School of St. Mary’s parking lot July 11 to perform an adaption of P.G. Wodehouse’s “A Crime Wave at Blandings Castle.” This adaption blends film director Wes Anderson’s style with contemporary theatre techniques to serve Wodehouse’s signature comedy.
